PET / CT Testing

CT:

CT (Computed Tomography) scan uses special xrays to take pictures of areas of the body. CT scan can typically be completed in less than 30 minutes. Some CT scans can be completed without the use of IV contrast while others use contrast. If you have an allergy to shellfish or iodine, please let your provider know as they will need to provide you with premedication. The imaging department will provide you instructions prior to your arrival.

 

PET/CT:


PET (Positron Emission Tomography) is a specialized test use a radioactive tracer to look at organs in the body. This tracer is a special form of glucose that collects in cells that use a lot of glucose for energy, such as tumor cells. The PET scan is combined with a CT scan (listed above) to get a good picture of the organ or organs within the body. The imaging departemtn will provide you with instructions prior to your arrival.
